Dr. Richard O. Knighton


Dr. Richard Knighton grew up in Orange County, CA. He spent his early years in Tustin, CA until moving to an avocado ranch in Escondido, CA where he graduated high school. Dr. Knighton received his undergraduate degree in Biology from U.C. Riverside. He then attended U.C. Davis where he received his Master of Science degree in Zoology, a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Science as well as his Teaching Credential in Life Sciences. He then graduated from U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986 with his D.V.M. degree. He studied exotic and wildlife medicine as well as mixed animal medicine and surgery while attending U.C. Davis finding personal enjoyment working with horses and cattle. Dr. Knighton has focused on companion animal medicine and surgery in practice for the past 25 years. In addition to private practice he has done quite a bit of pro bono work with local wildlife and companion animal rescue groups.

In his spare time Dr. Knighton enjoys spending time with his wife Susan and their children, Grace, Andy and Phoebe(pictured here with him). He enjoys coaching basketball, baseball and football. His love of outdoor activities also includes hiking, camping and kayaking. Dr. Knighton has two dogs and keeps chickens as well.
